本院前身為南京下關海軍醫院，創立於民國34年11月，民國36年4月奉令改為海軍第五醫院，迨民國37年冬中共全面叛亂，京滬不穩，本院遷移浙江定海，民國38年9月京滬失守，戰局持續惡化，即奉撥瑯琊號供應艦一艘，做為醫院船，本院人員及設備等，悉遷於艦上作業，同時奉改番號為第一醫院。該艘瑯琊供應艦原係商船，名「舟山」號，政府於民國38年在浙江將之徵收，並將本院(定海海軍第一醫院)搬上船而成為中華民國海軍有史以來唯一的一艘醫院船。成軍之後即長駐定海舟山戰區服勤，稍後於民國39年回到基隆後解編除役。民國38年期間中共大舉渡江，醫院船既經常巡駛於普陀山、長塗島等各沿海島嶼，擔任救傷及治療工作。民國39年5…
