General information
1979年1月，美國與我國斷絕外交關係，中央決策當局為因應此一突變形勢，並確保國家經濟穩定發展與持續成長，乃提出「財政經濟改革措施」，建議由政府撥款與工商界捐助，以財團法人方式，成立獨立之研究機構，網羅國內外學者專家，研究國內外經濟情勢，提出政策建言，備供政府諮詢參考。行政院指示由經濟建設委員會輔導策劃，經妥善規劃後，於1981年7月1日正式成立「中華經濟研究院」。
