本校為因應台灣社會變遷與民眾對福利服務需求日益殷切，透過陳宇嘉副校長的多方協調，於民國94年創立社工系。旨在培育社會工作專業人才，提升南台灣社會工作專業水準。在歷屆系主任與師生的努力經營之下，逐步發展出今日的規模，並建立重視實務、與實務交流以及改進實務的特色。
